Wildflowers

“Like wildflowers, you must allow yourself to grow in all the places people thought you never would.” – E.V.

My Background

My childhood and teenage were spent in a surrounding of true nature. We lived in hilly areas of the Western Ghats (Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, Chandoli National Park). I remember I was always wandering here and there collecting various flowers and leaves. I lost myself and spent hours & hours just observing the colors and anatomy of those flowers and leaves, the designs uniquely made and painted by the Great CREATOR. But it takes my half-life to understand my real interest in a career.

By qualification, I am a pharmacist. I tied the knot as soon as I completed my post-graduation. Immediately after I hired a 9 to 5 job as a maximum number of people surrounded by us do. I loved the experience of my job in both industries as well as academics. At a perfect time, we decided to grow our family. But there is a different plan of our Almighty. We can say it is the turning point. Certain abnormalities in my pregnancy left me no option which results in quitting my industrial job.

Being MOTHER is a beautiful feeling yet a responsible duty. It changes your priorities in life. Instead of resuming my industrial job, I decided to join a lectureship part-time so that I can available full-time for my daughter. We were enjoying our triangle a lot.

How did I come across this world of surface design?

While fulfilling my motherhood, my passion for doing something creative didn’t allow me to sit quietly. I went through online videos and learned crafts for home decor whenever I got spare time after accomplishing my household activities. Since my firstborn was clever enough, we decided to go baby brother. With two kids, it’s merely impossible to hire a full-time job. so I was searching for options to freelance. And with the grace of almighty, I came across Skillshare-an online teaching platform.

I spent loads of time watching lessons while my baby was sleeping next to me. And here I met my lovely mentor Bonnie Christine and the surface pattern designing world. She inspires me inside and out. Your work should be such that it makes you jump in your bed as soon as you wake up. That’s what you can be called it passion or dedication.

Watercolor painting- Some relaxing moments

My beautiful creative journey of designing has started. Nowadays, as soon as I get up, I rush to my working place to learn new things, and techniques and hone my skills. I am progressing with baby steps.

Challenges

The path I have covered till was not easy. For many months, I stayed away from social media, and my friends. I hardly contacted my family. It’s quite overwhelming sometimes while learning myself at home. No real tutor is there for me to correct or explain or simplify. As this field is totally new for me and even for my circle, I have to google or surf a lot whenever I get stuck up. When anything I couldn’t manage to do even tried many times, I feel helpless, self-defeating, and frustrated.

Sometimes I feel tight on time. The biggest challenge I was going through is time management with my 5-year-old and 1-and-a-quarter active toddler. I couldn’t outsource my responsibilities because of this pandemic.

My Strenths

Still, this is a phase that I cherish. My family is my continuous support. My husband hardly helped me technically (as he is a full-time employee, also new to my field) but he never let me give up. He is always motivating and provides valuable suggestions all the time. He manages our kids so that I can concentrate on my work.

And what to say about my daughter. Initially, she had complaints about being always on the computer instead of playing with her. But now what should be a heart-melting moment than this, when she approaches you with something cute inspiration in her hand to suggest to use in your design???

A morning coffee made by your sweetheart in a coffee mug having your design while you are at your workplace is a real bliss. Till now I made more than 100 patterns, developing my signature style. There are lots of things to be learned as we never say we are perfect because knowledge is continuously updating in this world.
