Freelancing: Pros and Cons My Way

Hello Lovelies…..

Now that we have entered 2021, its best to let roller coaster of 2020 become a distant memory and celebrate the upcoming year with a lot of joy and happiness. People all over the world have already established their new year resolutions and plans. When seeing back last few months, I was in dilemma whether start to freelance or not. First thing I do not have any entrepreneur background, and there are still opportunities for my age to enter into conventional employee life. Actually its not easy to leave your comfort zone, right??

At first, I want to declare that every person has its own priorities, values, lifestyles and goals. But as I already mention in my title, its my way. Someone may have different opinions. But the thing which made me stick up to freelance is very genuine. You too can relate. According to me, (I don’t know whether someone might have already noted anywhere this or not) it’s a true symbol to check whether you are at your passionate career or not. As soon as you woke up, you should jump out of your bed to start your work. This thing never happens with me in my previous jobs.

Most of the times, I got up from bed against my will. I did my all activities just mechanically as I have to pick up my specific time bus or local (Aamchi Mumbai…?). It’s other thing that once you reached your workplace and surrounded by colleagues, we forget every feeling and get concentrated on our work, if only your company has friendly and healthy culture enough. However, office politics is almost inescapable, especially when you have full-time employees.

There are pros and cons of every profession. It depends on you, how to deal or overcome them. But this time it’s hard for me to deal with such feelings, as now I have not only wake up against will but also leave behind my 1 year old son. To keep him in a day care was an unimaginable thing. I really didn’t want when my daughter returns home from school and I wasn’t there to hug and welcome her.

Another amazing benefit of being freelance I am experiencing is control of workload. I can work as much or as little as I want. What to be most flexible thing than this to work from anywhere in the world, or in your favorite pajamas whenever you feel lazy. I can distribute or rearrange work hours as per my health and my family responsibilities. No more sacrifices for any incredible moments like, your baby’s development, attendance of kid’s sports, annual days etc. And who wouldn’t love to shower of care and warmth throughout their illness.

Working a freelance job opens up the ability work on a variety of projects and topics as you work with variety of clients. It is a way to broaden horizons. This variety can help create an environment that is less redundant and boring. Freelancing offers you to get rid of the daily commute which avoid your physical exertion, help you to save quite a bit of money every month and eventually help the environment too. Less vehicles, less traffic and less pollution.

It doesn’t mean there are no cons here. Ofcourse it has. There is no scope of getting ready professionally. The most thing I enjoyed while in corporate world is being trendy. I had very nice collection of outfits and accessories those days. I am really fond of ear-rings. But nowadays they are just enhancing the richness of my jewelry box (mainly thanks to pandemic?). But these are not so strong cons as you can improve it by change in your everyday lifestyle.

 You hardly make new real friends. You will be a one-man (woman) army. Everything starts from YOU and ends at YOU. You have ultimate responsibility start from learning essential programs, promotion of your work, building of website and logo, developing email marketing system, getting clients, managing them, billing/collection, paying taxes and more. You’ll need to make many decisions by your own. Sometimes you get overwhelmed while handling these tasks but most of time you enjoy these challenges

Finding steady work and financial instability is another advantage of freelancing. Unlike at your conventional job, where projects and tasks are assigned for you but here you have to find projects by yourselves. You know how much your next paycheck will be and when you will be getting it there but you have to suffer lack of constant cash payments here.

At last, I would say contemplate the pros and cons of freelancing against the values you stand for or the things that matter the most to you, and make a decision accordingly. There is always a first time for everything. At last you always feel proud of your accomplishments. It’s my experience.
